Body Butters: Say Bye-Bye to Winter Skin

Body Butters: Say Bye-Bye to Winter Skin

Yup, it's that time of year again, when temperatures plummet and the normally deliciously moist South African air dries up, leaving us all feeling a bit like an Ouma Rusk in desperate need of a cuppa for a good dunking.

There are a few things you can do in winter to help your skin out.

I don't want to sound like an Instagram Reel reminding you to drink water, although you should (she writes while glaring at her full water bottle with barely disguised disgust), there are some other things you can do to combat winter skin.

Winter Skin, like bruh...

With lower temperatures, humidity decreases. This means that your skin struggles to maintain that dewy, hydrated yum we experience so wonderfully in the warmer months. With less humidity there is less moisture in the atmosphere and less available for our skin. Along with all the velds catching fire, our skin feels like it's about to go the same way 😒
And because it's k#k cold, we are all pumping those heaters, electric blankets, when Eskom isn't playing games, or jolling by a fire, when they are. This leaches the moisture out of the air even more.
When the long day is over and we're done hustling, we go home and have a scalding hot shower or bath. This strips the natural oils and barrier protection provided by those oils, from our skin meaning that it is more sensitive and vulnerable to environmental stressors.
And the wind doesn't help matters either. Nor does the fact that UVA and UVB is just as heccies in winter as it is in summer (shout out to a good SPF).

How to Banish Winter Skin

We could use Magic, we could do a little jig in the moonlight, we could summon a High Fae (here's looking at you Rhysand) to flick away our dry and peeling husks and replace it with smooth and supple skin.
Or we could do the work ourselves.

One of the key ways to smoother skin in winter is through exfoliation. By exfoliating, you are not only removing dry and damaged skin (just be careful not to exfoliate too often or on dry and damaged skin) but you are also priming your skin for anything you apply afterwards. This is the perfect way to ramp up the hydration in your routine, use creams, lotions, oils or, if you're like me, a smeary body butter.

You're in luck, we have a yum range of Body Butters.

Hydrate your skin post shower with a delicious Body Butter. Body Butters are thick and nourishing while being fragrant, helping your skin lock in moisture and provide barrier protection where your skin may have lost a little bit of it's juice. And you're in the right place, because we do not play around at Brunational, you can get a 500g tub of Body Butter in 5 brilliant fragrances:

Remember, drink that water, stay out of the sun, exfoliate and use Body Butter!
