Exfoliate & Hydrate Bundles
I don't know about where you are in the country, but up here in JHB, this winter so far has been pretty chill. But, as winter does, it lulls you into a false sense of security. The one day you're like, nah, I can wear those pants that are open at the ankle, not a boot in sight, is the day winter goes hehe and plunges you into a cold so deep, your poor ankles feel as though they are being flayed by the freezing wind. Or maybe it's just me, sitting here, literally chilling, with my frozen ankles. And you know what else I noticed (much to my chagrin), just how much the skin peeking out of my too short pants looks a bit like the below 😢
I work at a skincare company, I should know better. But for those of you who don't know how to get rid of that Karoo looking skin and lock in some much needed hydration, here's how 😉
Step 1: ExfoliateÂ
Alright, one of the most important things you can do in winter (and actually all year round) is exfoliate. It may seem counterintuitive to use something abrasive on your skin, especially when it is dry, but so long as it is not cracked or damaged, exfoliating can do wonders for your skin. Not only does it remove the layer of skin that is dead and looks dry and ashy, it also allows the skin beneath to come through. This means that skin doesn't only look smoother, more even and radiant, it feels like it too. Exfoliating also minimizes ingrown hairs and allows for a closer shave. When you're doing an everything shower, exfoliation should be one of your go to steps.
And I don't know about you, but when I exfoliate, I EXFOLIATE. I like me some grit, I want to really feel as though I am doing the work. This is one of the reasons that I love our Exfoliating Scrubs which are salt & sugar cream scrubs and each one has it's own added active and fragrance.Â
Step 2: HydrateÂ
Cooler temperatures in winter means that there is less moisture in the air. Compound that with heaters, hot water bottles, electric blankets and scalding showers and baths, your skin takes a bit of a beating. All that dry air and heat application means that your skin struggles to keep the oils that naturally insolate and protect skin from environmental damage and strain are less present on your skin (or my the look of my legs, aren't present at all). A rich, fragrant body butter does has a duel function, not only does it apply moisture to your skin and fragrance it (deliciously I might add) but it also helps your skin by acting as a barrier against all those things we do to keep warm and helps protect the moisture your skin is trying desperately to retain. If you want to go a step further, apply after showering when your skin is still damp.
