Mushrooms in Skincare? Let's talk Tremella and Cordyceps.
Personally, I absolutely love mushrooms. Delish in a good ol' pasta, on its own, roasted and topped with cheese... yum! But there is more to these little fungi than meets the eye and the skincare world is buzzing about their benefits.

Tremella in Skincare
Tremella is a 100% natural and super renewable plant based alternative to synthetic Hyaluronic Acid. According to research, because the molecule size of Tremella is smaller than that of Hyaluronic Acid, and because it had additional anti-oxidant properties, it may be considered more effective than Hyaluronic Acid. In the skincare world Hyaluronic Acid is generally considered one of the gold standard products when it comes to humectants and pumping up the skin with all the hydration you could hope for.

Tremella works beautiful with Hyaluronic Acid or on its own. Because the molecules are smaller than that of Hyaluronic Acid, they penetrate deeper into the skin improving plumping, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles improving skin tone. Skin tone is one of the signs we consider when we speak of gentle aging, the better the texture and tone of your skin, the more youthful and healthy it looks.
Tremella reduces TEWL which is trans-epidermal water loss which, in turn, helps skin fight against environmental stressors. And this helps soothes sensitive, irritated or inflamed skin. It is also high in Beta Glucans and polysaccharides which help create a flexible film over skin that is light weight and locks in moisture.
There is a massive shift in skincare, consumers like you and I, are more educated about what we put on our skin and in our bodies and Tremella supports biomimetic skincare and skin supportive products.
Coming soon is our ACTA Range and you can get a delicious combination of Tremella and Hyaluronic Acid in our Hydrate Elixir. Cordyceps in Skincare
If Tremella is good, then we're going to have to argue for Cordyceps. If the word seems familiar, that's because its the horrifying fungus that because it's the fungi in The Last of Us. In the real world, it isn't a human Zombie creating fungi but it is interesting. It has been used in Chinese Medicine for centuries and is considered a pioneering ingredient in skincare.

Cordyceps contain adenosine and polysaccharides. Adenosine works on the skin by boosting the production of collagen and elastin, proteins that contribute to topical skin firmness and elasticity.
This means that Cordyceps help stressed, mature or dry skin providing deep hydration and assisting in barrier support and strengthening. This helps protect against environmental stressors while boosting hydration, acting as a humectant, transforming dull looking skin.
Cordyceps are also shown to reduce inflammation and accelerate wound healing. When in serums, it is shown to assist skin calls by boosting metabolic energy.
Mushrooms are seeing growing popularity in skincare products because they are multifunctional, providing a host of benefits, are skin friendly and their environmental impact is low and they are sustainable.
In ACTA, we have combined the power of Cordyceps with Up Citrus Extract which is Vitamin C derived from upcycled citrus peels to create the Vitality Elixir. And of course, because we are all about ramping up the goodness, we've also slammed some Rooibos Extract in there which is rich in polyphenols and flavonoids that help protect skin against environmental stressors. The Vitality Elixir is designed to improve radiance, revitalize and support fatigued skin with a lightweight but powerful formula.
